Close your eyes and picture this: Big mountains with old growth trees. At the base of these mountains a large lake surrounded by lush green undergrowth, and right next to the lake sits this big beautiful lodge, with fantastic food (incredible breakfast muffins and homemade jam!), and people who want to make you comfortable. Now that is a vacation! You also get to see elk, snow geese, and birds in the lower to upper forest zones. The Colonel Bob trail just down from the lodge is a challenging hike to get away from it all and hear nothing, nothing but the sweet sounds of nature.
Directions
Getting to Lake Quinault is again as easy, or as tough, as getting to Ocean Shores or Bowerman Basin. This time instead of turning onto Highway 109 after Hoquiam, continue straight ahead on Hwy 101. The road is beautiful, rolling, tree lined, not crowded, and perfect for our auto cruising society. Approx. 40 minutes past Hoquiam, take the South Shore turn off for Lake Quinault. Enjoy.
